ClassGraphic This Secretary of State-approved course will prepare you to retake the exam by reviewing all relevant notary laws. Students will take the official notary exam immediately following the course. Renewing notaries are required to retake the exam and submit new fingerprints. Your commission must be current to qualify. Otherwise, you may register for the six-hour seminar.

Please read:  Please register in advance to ensure you receive important course information from Notary Public Seminars via email. Seating is limited, and walk-in registrations cannot be accommodated. Please arrive early. In accordance with state regulations, no one will be admitted to the classroom after 12:45 PM.

To attend the course and take the official notary exam, please bring the following items: the Secretary of State Notary Exam Application (provided in class); valid identification, such as a state-issued driver’s license or identification card, a Canadian or Mexican driver’s license, a U.S. passport or a passport issued by a foreign government, or a U.S. military identification card; a $45 check or money order for the materials fee, payable to Notary Public Seminars; a $40 check or money order for the exam fee, payable to the Secretary of State; one 2” x 2” color passport photo; the Proof of Completion (issued after the class); and two No. 2 pencils.


The materials fee includes the Seminar Guidebook, Secretary of State handbook, Proof of Completion, notary application, and access to the instructor’s website with additional educational resources. Once registered, please contact the Community Lifelong Learning office to inquire about creating a Notary Public Seminars account, which provides access to optional study materials. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Live Scan fingerprinting is required to become a notary. Certain criminal convictions may disqualify applicants. Prior approval is required for exam retakes. Exam fees are non-refundable. This course is subject to cancellation due to low enrollment.
