« back to classes page
CourseGraphic This basic motorcycle training course is designed for beginning and inexperienced motorcyclists of all ages. You will attend a total of at least 16 hours of instruction. All students must attend the Online and/or in-person lectures, ranges and be on time. Check your schedule. The first lecture portion of this class will be taught online using Zoom. The Zoom password will be sent in a separate email a day or two before class begins. If you have not used Zoom before, the program will ask to load a small application on your device. You do not need to pay to use Zoom as a Motorcycle Student for this class. Desktops, laptops, phones and iPads all work. A device with video camera should be used. A device with audio MUST be used. No exceptions! If you are late to any portion of the class for any reason, you forfeit the entire course fee. To reschedule you will need to call the office and pay the full tuition rate.

Students coming to class must agree to wash hands or use hand sanitizer, not shake hands, touch or hug others, agree to follow social distancing guidelines, bring and wear a mask, and bring a cloth head covering if using one of our loaner helmets for class. Students are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to bring their own helmet and gloves. If you bring your own it must be DOT approved - ¾ or full. We provide helmets if you need one for the range classes on Saturday and Sunday. Students must provide a cloth head covering when wearing a loan helmet. Masks must be worn at all times.

A parent or guardian with valid ID must accompany a minor (15 ½ - 17 years old) to first range class to complete paperwork. No exceptions!

The course introduces the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling. If you are an experienced rider, but without a motorcycle or scooter license, the vehicle code in California states if you are caught riding without a M1 or M2 (motorcycle license) endorsement on your license, your motorcycle or scooter may be impounded. Law enforcement officers do not always impound, but a high percentage do. Towing cost, storage cost and the cost of the ticket all add up to $$$'s. We offer classes most weekends throughout the year (except for some holidays).

The cost for the course is $350 for students 21 or older and $295 for students 15 ½ - 20 years of age. The DMV requires riders under 21 to successfully complete a Basic Rider Course to get a motorcycle operator's license. Registration and payment for the motorcycle course does not guarantee a DL389 Certificate, you must successfully complete all classes. You can now participate in the course using your student-owned Scooter, call the office at 209.575.6063 for special requirements or for additional class information.
