This basic motorcycle training (A) course is designed for beginning and inexperienced motorcyclists of all ages. You will attend a total of at least 16 hours of instruction, including both classroom by Zoom and range time. Times may vary check the schedule. A parent or guardian must accompany a minor (15 ½ - 17 years old) to the Saturday range class to complete paperwork. No exceptions!
The course introduces the fundamentals of safe, responsible motorcycling. If you are an experienced rider, but without a motorcycle or scooter license, the vehicle code in California states if you are caught riding without a M1 or M2 (motorcycle license) endorsement on your license, your motorcycle or scooter may be impounded. Law enforcement officers do not always impound, but a high percentage do. Towing cost, storage cost and the cost of the ticket all add up to $$$'s. We offer classes most weekends throughout the year (except for some holidays).
The cost for the course is $350 for students 21 or older and $295 for students 15 ½ - 20 years of age. The DMV requires riders under 21 to successfully complete a Basic Rider Course to get a motorcycle operator's license. Registration and payment for the motorcycle course does not guarantee a DL389 Certificate, you must successfully complete all classes. After completing the requirements of the motorcycle safety course, an applicant is issued a DL 389. The DL 389 may be used to waive the motorcycle skills test at DMV and must be submitted to DMV within 12 months of the date of issuance.
You can participate in the course using your student-owned Scooter, call the office at 209.575.6063 for special requirements or for additional class information.
