Arrive on Day two in Nice, where you will transfer and enjoy a three night hotel stay. Tonight enjoy a get-acquainted dinner with your fellow travelers. Day three enjoy a leisure morning before visiting Monte Carlo on a guided tour, where you learn about the jet-set lifestyle in Monaco. Day four is at leisure. Your tour director is available to help you plan your day. Day five depart the hotel by coach for Arles where the Emerald Liberte awaits. Tonight, enjoy a welcome reception and dinner onboard. Day six enjoy the town of Arles and all of its charms. A local guided tour takes you through the medieval streets. See why the colorful houses were an inspiration to Vincent Van Gogh and other famous artists. See the 2,000 year-old Roman amphitheater which is still in use today. Day seven visit Avignon, one of the few French cities to have preserved its ramparts, historic center and churches. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the city is well known for the imposing Palace of the Popes. Your guided walk takes you through this historic center, strolling the cobbled lanes, over-looking the famous Pont d’Avignon. Day eight arrive in Viviers, a town that is home to one of France’s oldest cathedrals. Your city tour explores all the architectural heritage of this quaint town. Day nine join your local guide for a walking tour of Tournon, dominated by the 16th-century castle and roman ruins. Nestled in the valley near the steep slopes of le Massif Central, France’s 3rd largest mountain range, it is picture-perfect. The area has a long tradition in wine making. Day ten arrive in Lyon, France’s third largest city, which is steeped in history and a former Roman capital positioned at the confluence of the Rhone and Saone Rivers. Take part in a guided tour of Lyon, which starts with a drive to the Basilque Notre Dame de Fourviere, Lyon’s hilltop church, with stunning views over the town. Then, pass by the recently re-discovered roman amphitheater and walk through the cobbled streets of the gastronomic old town including secret alleyways. Day eleven visit Chalon-Sur-Saone, the centre of Burgundy’s wine region. Travel by road to the quaint village of Beaune, where you visit the Hospices de Beaune, one of the finest examples of French 15th-century architecture. Marvel at the multi-colored roofs of this former hospital, now a museum, which has become one of the symbols of Burgundy. Day twelve, bid “au revior” to France as you disembark the cruise ship and transfer to the Lyon Airport for your flight home.
